Explore Tolay Lake Regional Park, learn about the cultural and ecological history of this Sonoma Mountain land, and get to know two Sonoma Mountain Preservation board members: Mark Hannon and Nancy Kirwan.

Tolay Lake Regional Park sits on the southwestern flank of Sonoma Mountain. Before 1870, Tolay Lake served as a sacred spot for healing “charmstone” ceremonies for over 4,000 years for Northern California tribes. It was once the largest freshwater lake in Sonoma County. After this area was colonized, in 1870, Rancher William Bihler dynamited an earthen berm to increase his farmland, largely draining the lake.
